August trip planning
Posted by Matthieu under: Fun; Travels; Vacations
Pakito’s presence in town is just the perfect excuse for a new road trip adventure. The plan is to take off after siggraph for a week (3-10 August)
This was the first sketch of a potential road trip with Pascal during the first week of August. Unfortunatly, my visa ending July 31st we’re gonna have to stay within the US… so no visit of Québec
.
Let’s evaluate other options :
- Options with plane :
- Florida : flying to Miami and renting a car, visiting Eveglades and the Keys. Drawback : heat and hunidity
- New Orleans. Cheap flight, like for Florida. Drawback : still damage from hurricane Katrina.
- Puerto Rico : Cheap flight and as it’s a US territory I might be able to travel without my visa… I need to check to be sure.
- Yellowstone NP : flying to Denver or Salt Lake city then driving to the park. Drawback : not cheap.
- SF and Yosemite NP : flying to SF squatting Sofra and spending a few days surfing, few days in Yosemite NP. Drawback : flight not cheap.
- Seattle, Pascal might have to go to see someone. Drawback : expensive flight.
- Alaska or Hawaii, just dreaming here
, too expensive, and I think we would need more than a week. Maybe next time
- Peru : if only I had a visa that’s where I’ll go to visit my little sister.
- Options without plane :
- Maine and/or New England state parks road trip : One of the most interesting option would be to drive through Maine, camp and visit a few parks like Acadia NP or Baxter State Park. Possibility to extend the trip to New Hampshire or Vermont if we have enough time.
- Road trip to Florida : that’s a big one
32-34h of drive from Cambridge to Key West. 3320 miles (5340 Km) round trip… maybe a week is too short although I know some people who did it… - Road trip to the south : milder version of the above. Maybe we could drive to Washington DC, Virginia or N. Carolina… I think they have some descent surf over there. At least I remember surfing when I went to N. Carolina before.
To be realistic Maine seems to be the cheapest option. Florida, New Orleans and Puerto Rico could be interesting too… to be continued
